The School for Young Children is located in Lenoir, NC at 1002 Kirkwood St. in the Lenoir Presbyterian Church.  SYC is an early childhood preschool that nurtures children 15 months old through Pre-K, in a Christ-centered environment. At SYC, we believe children learn best through active involvement and hands on experiences. Our preschool strives to meet the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual growth of each child in a developmentally appropriate manner. We operate Monday – Friday from 9 to 12 and follow the public school calendar year.  We offer an Early Morning Care option from 8 am – 9 am. Many children have graduated from our Pre-K during our over 40 years of nurturing and loving children.

We enjoy playing and exploring our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities, we play outside in a beautiful new playground, we have a great Gross Motor skills room for those days when it is cold or wet outside, and we are always learning how to play and share with each other. Come join our experience. Our Pre-K students are always well prepared for public kindergarten. We have been helping children to learn and grow for 40 years.  

SYC Registration forms are available online or at the SYC office. A nonrefundable $75 fee (discount of $50 for March) is required with each application. Enrollment is on first come first serve basis. 15-Month Class Lead

Natalie Borders is the lead teacher for the 15-Month Class. She holds Early Childhood Credentials I & II, CPR/First Aid certifications, and has taught at SYC for 12 years. A lifelong member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church, Natalie and her husband have three children. She loves sharing her faith and family values with her students.

15-Month Class Assistant

Dreama Rogers is the assistant teacher in the 15-Month Class. She has been at SYC for four years, is CPR/First Aid certified, and loves caring for little ones. A mother of three and member of Lenoir Presbyterian Church, Dreama enjoys teaching nursery Sunday School and supporting Mrs. Natalie.

3-Year Old Class Lead

Martha Dula is the lead teacher for the 3-Year-Old Class and has taught at SYC for 23 years. She holds Early Childhood Credentials from CCC&TI, is CPR/First Aid certified, and is active at Piney Grove Baptist Church, where her husband pastors. Martha treasures the hugs and milestones she shares with her students.

3-Year Old Class Assistant

Tina Smith is the assistant teacher in the 3-Year-Old Class and has been at SYC for 22 years. A mother of three and member of Colliers Methodist Church, she has over 25 years of childcare experience. Tina loves sharing God’s Word and caring for children at SYC.
